Now I am in my final year at The Gregg School, I look back and wonder where all the time has gone. I can remember my first day here very clearly. I was nervous but excited, full of anticipation of the challenges secondary school would bring. It seems hardly possible that I am now in Year 11.
I made a lot of friends in my first year here – friends who have stayed with me throughout my time at the School. Choosing Options subjects in Year 9 was a time I remember well. It took a long time to decide which subjects to take at GCSE, as I enjoyed all my lessons, but along with the core subjects I opted for French, Spanish, Drama and Religious Studies. Having sat my Maths IGCSE a year early (achieving an A* grade), I am now working towards an AS level in Maths.
There have been so many enjoyable experiences during my time at School it is difficult to single out any in particular. However, I did find the Adventure Camps and trips to France very enjoyable. Being interested in Drama, the visit to Glyndebourne Opera House and Drama Week were also highlights. In Year 10, all pupils spend two weeks in a work experience placement, and my fortnight spent in a Solicitors’ office was very interesting and enjoyable. I can also remember clearly winning the Original Writing Competition, bringing a sense of pride in my own achievements and winning valuable points for my House – the House Championship is very keenly contested!
At the beginning of Year 11, staff and Year 11 pupils all vote for Prefects. I was very happy to be appointed Head Girl and hope that I shall live up to their expectations as I deal with my responsibilities and duties.
I feel that The Gregg School has helped me to fulfil my potential, not only on an academic level, but also personally, and I know that lots of my friends here feel the same. |
At The Gregg School, everyone strives to make sure pupils make the most of whatever talents they might have. Before I came here, I was at the bottom of my class, and I thought I was good at absolutely nothing! After just one lesson I knew that I could do anything I want to in life, I just needed to make it happen. That’s what’s so great about The Gregg School – they help you find what you are good at, nourish it and help you make the most of it.
When I joined The Gregg School in Year 7 I was able to have a one to one lesson each week to help me with my dyslexia, until there came a point when I was told these were no longer necessary. With the help of the School’s Learning Support Department, I have managed to utilise my skills and apply them in the most effective way, which has helped me enormously. The proof of this is the fact that I took my Maths GCSE a year early, and gained an A*.
The School has lots of clubs and groups so that everyone can find something they are interested in joining – from History Club to athletics – there are so many things to do it is difficult to choose which activities to take part in!
I do believe that if I had not come to this School I would not be half the person I am now, and I would like to thank the School for giving me all the opportunities I have had. I would also like to thank all the teachers who have helped me realise that every single person has the potential to do great things. My only disappointment is that pupils can only spend five years here. |
