Headteacher's Welcome

I am pleased that you have visited our website and hope that the comprehensive information contained within it will encourage you to visit our School in the near future.  You will be warmly welcomed.

The Gregg School is a co-educational independent school founded in the city in 1901.   It is a member of both the Independent Schools Association and Independent Schools Council.

The School has an outstanding reputation for providing a caring environment with a family atmosphere in which students are able to develop and learn with confidence and where academic, cultural and recreational pursuits combine to encourage an all round experience.  Expectations are high, great value being placed on students' development of personal and social skills, leading to an increased sense of responsibility.

Our School has always given high priority to meeting individual needs, our wide ranging curriculum and extra-curricular activities having been designed to motivate students with differing abilities and interests. All children, given opportunity and encouragement, will respond positively to challenges with creative and enquiring minds - achievement in any field contributes to the healthy self-esteem vital in children’s development.

High academic standards are achieved by small teaching groups taught by highly qualified and committed staff in well-equipped classrooms.

Sports, music and drama are vital to school life and there are excellent facilities for these both within the main school building, a magnificent country mansion, and in the grounds which consist of 23 acres of park and woodland. These facilities are supplemented by the use of outside locations including swimming pools, Southampton Sports Centre and other specialist amenities referred to in our Physical Education section.

During my long experience as Headteacher of The Gregg School I have come to recognise the importance of giving young people an education for life. Our experienced and dedicated staff work together to provide children with an excellent start.
