Level 2 BTEc Award in Business

Students can opt to take BTEc Business which is the equivalent of a GCSE. The aim of the course is to:

  • provide an engaging, practical and relevant introduction to the world of business.

  • encourage students to explore different types of business and how they are successful.

  • enable students to develop their research and presentation skills by producing a business plan for a realistic business start-up in West End.

  • allow students to study and analyse financial statements such as profit and loss accounts and balance sheets.


The course consists of 2 compulsory units as listed below:

  • ‘Finance for Business’ – this unit covers the key aspects of finance that underpin all businesses such as profit and loss, financial planning and cash flow forecasting

  • ‘Enterprise in the Business World’ – covers the development of business models and looks at the key trends, structures and other factors that help a business become successful.


Students build on the knowledge gained in the two compulsory units by studying two of the following units:


Unit 3: Promoting a Brand

Unit 4: Principles of Customer Service

Unit 5: Sales and Personal Selling

Unit 6: Introducing Retail Business

Unit 7: Providing Business Support

Unit 8: Recruitment, Selection and Employment

After this course students can progress to the Level 3 BTEC Business at college.
