| P.E.
is a core subject incorporating not only competitive games, but
also a wide variety of physical activities. The combination of competitive
team and individual sports alongside the more aesthetic and health-related
fitness activities should enable pupils to develop health, fitness
and cognitive skills with important positive social interaction.
At Key Stage
3 the pupils follow a broad based curriculum with mixed groups being
taught gymnastics, dance, hockey, basketball and swimming. |

|
Other
activities include football, rugby and netball. Racket games include
both table tennis and tennis, with badminton being introduced at
year 9.
Our beautiful surroundings provide us with the ideal background
for both cross country running and orienteering. Our summer programme
includes track and field athletics, cricket, rounders and volley-ball.
At Key Stage 4 P.E. remains a core subject, but there is a greater
emphasis on recreational sports, which the pupils may continue when
they leave school. Off site we can offer skiing at the Sports Centre,
sailing at Hamble, golf at a variety of venues, badminton, squash,
swimming, basketball and five a side football at Fleming Park, and
hockey at Trojans. On site we are developing a fitness option, which
includes: circuit training, aerobics and step aerobics.
There are House competitions for most activities. The ideal here
is for most of our pupils to be involved and enjoy some form of
competitive sport. Pupils also have the opportunity to participate
in a variety of lunchtime and after school clubs throughout the
year. These include: dance, cross-country, netball, soccer, basketball,
hockey, tennis, table tennis, rounders, athletics, gymnastics, rugby
and cricket.
The girls take part in netball leagues and play friendly hockey
matches against local schools. There are also cross-country and
swimming teams. For the boys there are both football and basketball
participation in the City leagues and friendly hockey matches. Fixtures
are also arranged for tennis and athletics.
There
is an opportunity for those pupils with a special interest in sport
to opt for GCSE P.E. This very successful course has been running
for the past five years.
