Study SkillsHead of Department Mrs L A King Study Skills is a new venture, begun in September 2006, for Year 7 only. In our regular assessment of the attainment of pupils in all educational areas, we have become aware of a need to spend some time trying to improve learning skills in general. In this course of one lesson each week, pupils are encouraged to develop their listening skills, memory, planning and sequencing skills, sense of space, logic, hand/eye co-ordination etc through a varied range of fun activities. We play battleships, struggle through mazes, try to find Wally, play "jacks", learn Japanese (!), play memory games, practice fine motor skills, exercise to strengthen our hands and eyes and also to relax, listen to sounds and each other ..... and generally enjoy activities while improving the skills that are essential for learning. Every department in the school can suggest skills that need to be developed for inclusion in the program. We hope that pupils will benefit in every area of school life, from revision techniques to doing up their tie correctly! |
