Welcome to The Gregg School

The back of The Gregg School The Gregg School is a co-educational independent school founded in the city in 1901. It is a member of both ISA and ISCis.

The School offers an extensive curriculum to all pupils in key stages 3 and 4. Pupils come to the School from a wide area, both inside and outside the city. The pupils benefit from small classes and are taught by experienced and dedicated staff.

The Gregg School is a lively school in which a friendly, family atmosphere is engendered; where academic, cultural and recreational pursuits blend as easily as do routines and relaxation; where high expectations prove fruitful; and where the value we place on the development of personal and social skills prepares the way for contentment and fulfilment in life.

The School has always given high priority to meeting individual needs. We have a concern for the whole child, offering a wide ranging curriculum and a programme of activities designed to motivate pupils with differing abilities and interests. The School has an outstanding reputation for providing a caring environment with a family atmosphere in which pupils are able to develop and learn with confidence.

All children, given opportunity and encouragement, will respond positively to challenges with creative and enquiring minds. Achievement in any field contributes to the healthy self-esteem vital in children’s development.

Our primary aim is to provide, within that caring and secure environment, the means for educational experiences to flourish, and we have been determined to preserve our values during the many changes that have taken place in recent years. Parental involvement, which is welcomed and encouraged, enables all to share in the delight of achievement.

High academic standards are achieved by small teaching groups taught by highly qualified and committed staff in well-equipped classrooms.

Pupils normally take nine GCSE or equivalent examinations in Year 11. External examinations in keyboarding applications and music may be taken from Year 7 onwards.

Drama, music and a wide variety of sports are vital to school life and there are excellent facilities for these both within the main school building, a magnificent country mansion, and in the grounds which consist of 20 acres of park and woodland. These facilities are supplemented by the use of outside locations including swimming pools, Southampton Sports Centre and other specialist amenities.

A high point of the year for many pupils is the residential experience offered to most year groups. This takes pupils to interesting and stimulating environments, providing opportunities for personal development and a chance to relate classroom studies to real life.

During my long experience as Headmaster of The Gregg School I have come to recognise the importance of giving young people an education for life. Our experienced and dedicated staff work together to provide children with an excellent start.

There are also other opportunities for you to attend events such as our Speech Days, Open Days and Taster Days.
